Recessed spotlights: why choose them?

There are reasons why LED downlights are the ideal spotlights for lighting your home. For example, you have the choice of GU10 recessed spotlights with a socket or recessed spotlights with their own transformer. The advantage of this is that if one of the spotlights breaks, you can always easily reach the transformer. The transformer fits through the hole where the recessed spot has been installed! You can also simply loop the spotlights through to the 230-volt cable in your ceiling. This allows you to connect an unlimited number of recessed spotlights.

But there are more advantages:
- Stylish designs
- Choice of GU10 LED downlights and LED downlights with their own transformer
- Excellent quality
- Atmospheric warm white light (2700k)
- Sustainable and environmentally friendly
- 85% more energy-efficient than incandescent, energy-saving, and halogen lamps
- Reliable product

What specifications are important to consider for LED recessed spotlights?

The last thing you want is to order LED recessed lights and find out upon delivery that they are not suitable. That's why it's useful to know in advance what specifications you need to bear in mind when buying LED recessed spotlights. We've listed the most important specifications for you.

IP value
When you start looking for recessed lights, you'll soon notice that most spotlights differ in terms of their IP value. This indicates the extent to which your spotlight is protected against water and dust. The letters IP are followed by two figures. The first figure indicates the extent to which the spotlight is protected against solid objects. The second figure indicates how much water the spotlight can withstand. The higher the number, the more resistant the spotlight is to dust and water.

IP-20 = These spotlights are suitable for the bedroom, living room, or any other place where it is not damp. Spotlights with an IP-20 rating should therefore only be installed in dry rooms.

IP-44 = These spotlights are protected to a limited extent against dust and moisture. We recommend using IP-44 spotlights in the bathroom, kitchen, or in your extension.

IP-54 = An IP-54 spotlight is slightly better protected against dust than an IP-44 spotlight. Spotlights with an IP-54 rating do not break down if dust penetrates them. It is also just as well protected against water as a spotlight with IP-44 protection. You can use this spotlight in the living room, bedroom, bathroom, and in your annex.

IP-65 = These spotlights are completely dust-proof and are protected against splash and spray water. You can therefore place these spotlights anywhere in your home.

The dimensions
The dimensions of LED recessed spotlights consist of height, diameter, and outer dimensions. We explain them below.

Height
Apart from the IP value, the height of an LED spotlight is important. The height is also called the depth. To determine the depth, you need to measure the space between the false ceiling and the existing ceiling. Add the thickness of the ceiling to that. Our advice is to leave a 2 mm clearance between the spotlight and the existing ceiling. The transformer also needs 2 mm clearance.

External dimensions
In addition to the recessed depth, the outer dimensions are an important specification. The external dimensions of a round LED recessed spotlight are its diameter. Do you prefer a square LED recessed spotlight? Then look at the length and width of the spot. The diameter of the round spotlight and the length and width should be equal to or greater than the hole in your ceiling.

Recessed size
The recessed size indicates how big the hole should be in which the spotlight is placed. Do you already have holes for the recessed spotlights? Then buy spotlights with the same dimensions.

Wattage
Do you want to know how much power a LED recessed spotlight uses? Look at the number of watts.

Tilting
Decide whether you want tiltable LED spotlights. Tilting spotlights can be pointed in a certain direction. In our assortment, you will find several models that can be tilted.

Dimmability
With us, you can dim all indoor lighting. You can choose from various control options, namely the LED dimmer Atlas, push dimmer Novex, remote control Moon and Hamulight app. With all these options, you can easily dim the lights. To use the Moon, Novex and app, you need to purchase the wifi LED receiver. When you purchase the receiver, you will receive free access to the app. With the app, you can create multiple rooms and control them separately. Note: in addition to the receiver, you also need to purchase the Novex and Moon separately. You do not need a receiver for the LED dimmer Atlas. If you don't want to dim the lights, you can simply connect it to an on/off switch. We do not offer this switch in our product range.

Accessories
We offer useful accessories that can help you install the lighting or control it. For example, you can use a hole saw to make holes in the ceiling. We also have several options for dimming the lighting, such as the LED rotary dimmer Atlas, wifi LED receiver, remote control Moon and push dimmer Novex. With the wifi LED receiver, you can also let the system communicate with Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

LED recessed spotlights with transformer or GU10 spotlights?

In our assortment, you'll find GU10 LED recessed spotlights and recessed spotlights with a transformer. The differences between the two are explained below.

GU10 LED recessed spotlights are often large and tall. This means you'll need a lot of space between the false ceiling and the actual ceiling. LED downlights with a transformer are smaller and require less installation space. The GU10 lamps can be replaced without having to change the light fitting. With LED recessed spotlights with a transformer, you also must replace the light fixture when the bulbs are broken. The transformer in these spotlights converts the incoming 230 volts to the safe 3.6 volts. GU10 spotlights are connected directly to 230 volts and therefore remain at high voltage.
