What are the different types of garden LED lights?

There are several ways to light up your garden. The best way for you depends on what you want. We recommend that you draw up a lighting plan for your garden. Drawing up a lighting plan forces you to think about why you want to light up your garden and makes it clear which LED garden lights you need. You can choose from the following types of garden lighting LED:

  • LED spike lights
  • LED ground lights
  • LED deck lights
  • LED wall lights
  • LED standing lights

Which LED garden lighting will you choose?

As you can see, there are so many different types of garden lighting you can use to enrich your garden. Let’s go into more detail on each type so you know exactly which one to choose!

LED spike lights

spike lights

Spike lights are versatile. The sharp pin makes them easy to move and can even be tilted, which means you can decide how high or low the beam of light will shine. Choose spotlights when you want to light a tree, shrub, or other object in your garden. Ponds and façades are also great options for these spotlights!

LED ground lights

ground lights

Ground lights are real atmosphere setters in a garden. Ground spots shine straight up. This ensures that LED ground spots can be used to illuminate a façade, shrub, tree, or other object when placed beneath them and they are ideal for illuminating a walkway or driveway! It is also possible to place them around a pond, but not in the pond!

LED deck lights

deck lights

The name ‘deck’ says it all. These spotlights are ideal for lighting your decking. Paths and driveways can also be illuminated with decking lights. Due to the lower wattage, decking spots are not suitable for illuminating objects. You use them as mood lighting, though!

LED standing lights

Standing lights or lamp posts are ideal for lighting your driveway or a walkway in your garden. They ensure that you have a good view, but the lighting remains atmospheric!

LED Wall Lights

Wall lights are installed against a wall and can be mounted in various places. You can use the wall lights as façade lighting, place them next to the front door, or use them on your fence or shed.

What are the important specifications of garden lights?

The IP value
With LED garden lights, it is important that the lights are well protected against water and dust. The IP value shows to what extent the garden lighting is protected. The coding consists of the letters IP, followed by 2 numbers. The first digit indicates protection against dust and the second digit indicates protection against water. The higher the digits, the better the protection.

We recommend choosing garden lights LED with IP-65 or IP-67. LED lights with IP-65 are weatherproof and resistant to dust and water jets. LED lights with IP-67 can be submerged in water for 30 minutes without lasting damage. All of our garden lights are IP-65 or IP-67 rated and are, therefore, weatherproof.

Wattage
The wattage is a measure of how much power the lighting consumes. It is important to determine how much light you need. On each product page, pay more attention to this number. We will help you determine how many watts you need in your situation.

The voltage
You can light your garden with two different working voltages. The possibilities are:

- 230 volts
- 24 volts

230 volts
This voltage is the same as the sockets in your home. LED garden lights with the well-known 230 volts are connected to the 230-volt ground cable in your garden. Make sure the cables are at least 60 cm under the ground! This way, the wiring is safely concealed.

Using waterproof cable connectors, you can easily connect 230-volt LED garden lights to each other. In some cases, the lighting has a plug, and you can plug it directly into the socket.

Motion Detectors & Twilight Switches
Did you know it’s possible to connect the 230-volt LED garden lights to a twilight switch or motion detector? You can find these under in our accessories section. We have two different twilight switches in our range. You can choose from the twilight switch 2000 and the twilight switch 3000. In both cases, you can set the switch-on level yourself and the lighting automatically switches on and off. However, the twilight switch 3000 also has a night savings mode. Using a rotary knob, you can program a fixed time when no light is needed at night which is ideal for saving energy.

The motion detector automatically switches the connected lights on and off when someone moves within the range of up to 14 meters. You can set the time and switch-on level yourself using rotary knobs.

Control with app and/or remote control
Do you prefer to control the lighting with our app or a remote control? That is possible. With the app, remote control Moon and Novex it is possible to switch the lighting on and off. With the app, it is possible to control both your indoor lighting and garden lighting. In the app, you can easily create multiple rooms and control them separately. The receiver can also communicate with Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

24 Volt (Plug & Play)
With the 24-volt Plug & Play system, you can light up your garden safely and quickly. 24 volts is a low working voltage. This ensures the system is safe for humans and animals, which is ideal if you have children or pets!

garden lights 24 volt

24-volt lighting is easy and quick to install. You only need to connect the lights with the click system and plug the 24-volt transformer into the socket. In contrast to 230-volt lighting, the 24-volt Plug & Play system works with a transformer. The transformer ensures the current is converted to the correct working voltage.

The 24-volt transformer must be ordered separately. You can choose from the following transformers:

  • Hamulight 24-volt LED transformer 35 watt
  • Hamulight 24-volt LED transformer 80 watt
  • Hamulight 24-volt LED transformer Astro 100 watt

- The Hamulight 24-volt LED transformer (35 watt & 80 watt)
These transformers ensures that the current is converted to the correct working voltage.

- The Hamulight 24-volt LED transformer Astro
The Astro transformer also converts the current into the correct working voltage, but in addition, you can also operate the lighting. You can program the Astro into many different modes, such as:

  1. ON mode: The lighting is always on
  2. OFF mode: The lighting is always off
  3. AUTO mode: The lighting switches on at sunset and off at sunrise
  4. TIMER mode: The light goes on and off at specific times (set by you)
  5. ASTRO mode: Astronomical timer mode with local sunrise and sunset

You must order the transformer separately, otherwise the 24-volt LED garden lights will not work!

The cables of the 24 volt LED garden lights can be hidden under a layer of sand or even left completely above ground. This saves you a lot of digging!

All garden lights in this system are equipped with the same waterproof connector. This way, you can connect multiple types of 24-volt outdoor lighting and light up your entire garden. You can operate multiple 24-volt LED garden lights on one 24-volt transformer.

Control with app and/or remote control
With the garden wifi LED receiver, you make it possible to control the 24-volt garden lighting with our app. When you purchase the garden wifi LED receiver, you get free access to the app. With the app, it is possible to control both your indoor lighting and garden lighting. In the app, you can easily create multiple rooms and control them separately. The receiver also allows you to control the lighting with the Moon and Novex remote controls. You do need to order the remotes separately. The receiver can also communicate with Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
